Voor BITBYBIT, hun eerste productie samen, vinden Kasper Vandenberghe en de broers Simon & Vincent Bruyninckx elkaar in de evenwichtsoefening tussen verbondenheid en veerkracht enerzijds en de onvermijdelijke val anderzijds. In een beeldrijke regie van Vandenberghe experimenteren de broers met een bijzondere circustechniek waarbij ze voor hun eigen veiligheid volkomen op elkaar aangewezen zijn.

BITBYBIT is de culminatie van een jaar artistiek onderzoek en fysieke training, maar voor de broers Simon en Vincent Bruyninckx ook van een leven lang lief en leed delen. Ze zijn samen opgegroeid en daarna samen tot circusartiesten uitgegroeid. Ze brachten meer tijd met elkaar door dan menig echtpaar van dezelfde leeftijd. Vervolgens lieten ze elkaar beetje bij beetje los en ervoeren ze een groot gemis. BITBYBIT is de ultieme toenaderingspoging. Voor het allereerst treft het broederpaar elkaar in de ring.
Voor de bijzondere circustechniek waarover sprake klemt elk een leren bit tussen zijn haag van tanden. Van het ene mondstuk naar het andere is een staalkabel gespannen als een navelstreng tussen twee bijtgrage jonge honden. Ze zoeken samen naar de perfecte balans, elk slechts steunend op twee stoelpoten. De broers kunnen hun bit evenwel onmogelijk loslaten wanneer de staalkabel zo gespannen staat, of ze vallen en gaan voortaan zonder hun voorste rij tanden door het leven. Ze dansen een pas de deux, ze spelen en vechten met elkaar en met de halsstarrige materie, telkens opnieuw aftastend waar hun eigen ik eindigt en dat van de ander begint.
Zo is BITBYBIT de lijfelijk ontleding van een broederschap. Ineengekrompen tot een schalkse blik van herkenning of net uitvergroot tot mythische proporties à la Kaïn en Abel (broederhaat) of Castor en Pollux (broederliefde). Ze wedijveren met drilboren, metselwerk en John Massis-achtige monstermotorfietsen, ze vormen zich naar elkaars viriele beeld of proberen daar precies aan te ontsnappen. Ze gaan openlijk de confrontatie aan met wie ze dankzij elkaar én ondanks elkaar geworden zijn. Als broers blijven ze hoe dan ook tot elkaar veroordeeld.
ENGLISH VERSION
The distinguished circus collective Collectif Malunés demolishes walls between various branches of the arts with an unearthly pleasure. They have this urge in common with MOVEDBYMATTER led by performance artist Kasper Vandenberghe.
In their first production together, BITBYBIT, Vandenberghe and the Bruyninckx brothers find each other in the balancing act between connectedness and resilience on the one hand, and the inevitable fall on the other, a sense of loss lurking behind every corner. Quite literally: in a visually rich direction by Vandenberghe, the brothers experiment with a particular circus technique for which they are completely dependent on each other for their safety.
This moment is the culmination of a year’s worth of artistic research and physical training, but also of the brothers’ lifelong sharing of joys and sorrows. They’ve grown up together and have become circus artists together. They’d spent more time in each other’s presence than many wedded couples of the same age. Then, bit by bit, they’ve let each other go, missing each other immensely, however. Bit by Bit is the ultimate rapprochement attempt. For the first time ever, the brothers meet in the ring.
BITBYBIT is the physical dissection of a brotherhood. Sometimes shrunken to a scanty look of recognition or rather enlarged to mythical proportions like Cain and Abel (brotherly hate) or Castor and Pollux (brotherly love). They compete with jackhammers, masonry and John Massis-y monster motor bikes, they mold themselves to each other’s manly images or rather attempt to escape them. They openly confront who they became thanks to and despite of one another. However, because they’re brothers, they’ll always remain inescapably condemned to each other.
